Chaieun Lee, Class of 2027
Chaieun Lee graduated from Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea, in 2023 with a BFA in Painting and a double major in Art Theory. Following graduation, She interned at DIA Contemporary in Seoul, and since then, she have been working as an independent curator, organizing a variety of exhibitions. In 2024, Chaieun was selected through an open call at OKSANGFACTORY in Seoul, where she curated a group exhibition. In the same year, She also participated in a two-person exhibition titled Chopstick Play at Gallery ChangSin.
As an artist, Chaieun has consistently combined her practice with curatorial roles in each exhibition of her work. Rooted in her painting practice, Chaieun’s curatorial work connects artists’ personal records and voices with wider social and cultural contexts. She believe that the deeply embedded sociocultural contexts within an individual’s voice can reveal larger issues such as gender dynamics and generational conflicts.
Most recently, Chaieun’s primary interest has been in amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and addressing discrimination against them. She is particularly engaged in exploring how these voices—which are often interpreted through a political lens—can be transformed and elevated through artistic expression.
