The Artists Roundtable is an international forum for leading practitioners, hosted by Tamsin Dillon of SVA’s MA Curatorial Practice faculty.
Jitish Kallat is an Indian contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores time, history, memory, science, cosmology, urban life, and human existence. Working across painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, and drawing, Kallat frequently incorporates dates, numbers, measurements, archival documents, historical texts, and natural elements into his work. He is interested in connections between the personal and the historical, as well as between earthly experience and cosmic scales of time. Kallat has exhibited internationally at major institutions including Tate Modern, the Centre Pompidou, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and served as Artistic Director of the 2014 Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
Kallat will introduce us to the breadth and depth of his practice, which brings science, historical memory, existential inquiry, and nature together to consider our presence and place in the cosmos. He will talk about some recent projects, including his wall drawing for The Menil Collection in Houston, as well as his curatorial projects, especially with the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India.
