The Institute for the Unachievable, founded in 2018, seeks to challenge the necessity of producing exhibitions according to traditional formats, with material artworks in bricks and mortar spaces, by articulating curatorial projects that can only exist in the realm of ideas, as concepts, as proposals. We are committed to exploring an idea of curatorial production that privileges thought itself, that remains abstract and discursive, wherein the possible is impossible, and the impossible possible.

This is a project of the second-year curatorial fellows of the MA Curatorial Practice program at the School of Visual Arts, under the faculty direction of

Joshua Decter.
