How much of our current narrative is a scripted play, and we its actors? In our current social condition, we are shaping a constructed self designed for social performance. Although human connections are a fundamental need, our performance complicates our ability to form genuine connections. As we dance along in this socially constructed performance, we must ask: how is our sense of individuality formed and deformed when we continuously mediate ourselves?

The Self Portrait Series by Laura Ciriaco and Luis Santana explores the relationship between intimacy and human form, raising questions how our sense of self is shaped by the environment, while Leonardo Madriz’s installation work Vase considers human intimacy through the lens of loss. Andreana Dobreva investigates how the body dissolves and reforms, questioning socially imposed ideals and revealing the complex layers of humanity. To look into Cameron Meade’s eccentric paintings is to search for the state of being whole and undivided, presenting life as a vivid experimentation in pursuit of individualism.

The Masquerade invites viewers to engage with the role of solitude behind the mask of this self-constructed performance.
